Worried about your hair thinning prematurely or not growing as fast as it used to? All hope is not lost, as a medical expert has shared food which can boost hair growth.

A doctor has shared five foods he believes you “need” to eat for thicker, longer hair. Dr Joe Whittington (@drjoe_md), who regularly shares health tips with his 2.1 million TikTok followers, recently combined physical and mental health advice in a new video.

“Long, thick hair – if that’s what you want, here’s five foods you need to incorporate in your diet today,” he started. Eggs are a fantastic source of protein, biotin, and Vitamin B12, all essential for hair growth, according to Dr Whittington.

He also recommended salmon, an “excellent source” of Omega-3 fatty acid, which strengthens hair and promotes its growth. Spinach, rich in Vitamins A and C, is important for producing sebum, keeping your hair moisturised reports Surrey Live.

Nuts were praised for their Vitamin E and zinc content, crucial for hair growth, with Vitamin E also improving blood circulation to your scalp.

Lastly, sweet potatoes made the list, being a good source of Vitamin C and containing beta carotene, which converts to Vitamin A in your body, concluded Dr Whittingham.

A third follower suggested combining some of the foods, saying: “Now there is a complete meal – nut crusted salmon served with roasted sweet potatoes and boil egg… dinner sorted.”

Meanwhile, another creative cook suggested: “Salmon in egg white wash, crusted with finely chopped nuts, with a spinach and sweet potato salad and vinaigrette made with the yolk. Boom.”
