HOUSTON (KTRK) – A Houston firefighter was killed and another injured while fighting a warehouse fire overnight in Texas.

The fire broke out at a vacant building just before 11 p.m. on Wednesday, but the blaze quickly escalated, and a wall collapsed.

Fire crews called for a second alarm and there was a mayday call after the collapsed wall.

Officials said one of the firefighter’s injuries wasn’t serious, but the other firefighter, identified as 42-year-old Marcelo Garcia, died at the hospital after being transported from the scene.

Garcia had been with the Houston Fire Department for 10 years and spent the last six years at Station 23.

Ultimately, firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze with the cause of the fire being investigated.
