BBC Line of Duty stars Martin Compston and Vicky McClure have teamed up for their latest AC12 investigation in the new Waitrose Christmas advert.
The Scots actor, 40, who plays Steve Arnott in the BBC drama, can be seen alongside his co-star Vicky, 41, better known as DI Kate Fleming, as the pair settle down on the sofa to enjoy a cuppa and mince pies in a festive living room before they spot something of interest on the TV.
The duo, who unveil corrupt officers in the force in the BBC show, turn to one another as Compston asks Vicky: “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?” to which she replies: “Yes mate, we’ve got ourselves a case.”
Waitrose launched their new Christmas ad on Instagram this morning, teasing fans with a part two as they captioned it: “When watching the TV, ends up becoming an investigation! Share your theories below to help us turn up the heat.
“Will we crack the case in part 2? #WaitroseMystery #ChristmasAtWaitrose #WaitroseChristmasAd”
The ad has delighted Line of Duty fans as it comes to a cliffhanger close with Compston saying: “Time to kick this investigation into gear.” Vicky replies: “Yup, now were cooking with gas.”
Many took to the comments to share their reactions as one wrote: “Waitrose you just won Christmas.” Another added: “SHUT UP!!! This has gone next level. I am buzzing!!!!”
A third chimed in: “If we don’t get a reference to Jesus, Mary, Joseph and the wee donkey I’m cancelling Christmas.”
Retailer John Lewis, known for their iconic Christmas ads, also stepped in to praise the video as they commented: “We’re on the edge of our seats, eager to unravel more!”
The supermarket’s ad has sent fans into a frenzy as it comes as the second AC12 reunion in a matter of days after Martin and Vicky shared a hilarious video of them with Adrian Dunbar (Ted Hastings) singing at the top of their lungs while driving through the streets of London in a tuktuk last week.
Fans have been waiting in anticipation for a Line of Duty comeback since the hit BBC drama, which first aired in 2012, broadcasted it’s last episode over three years ago.
The future of the show has remained in doubt ever since but these recent reunions have given fans hope that a comeback is on the horizon with rumours of a seventh season coming in the future.
