Flights traveling to and from Newark Liberty International Airport experienced lengthy delays on Thursday due to equipment problems, officials said.

More than 400 flights into and out of Newark had been delayed and eight had been canceled as of late Thursday afternoon, according to FlightAware.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported that inbound flights had been delayed by an average of roughly two hours, with some delayed by nearly five hours.

An “equipment outage” on Wednesday was reported at Newark Liberty, JFK, LaGuardia and Teterboro airports, leading the FAA to issue temporary ground stops. However, it was not clear if Thursday’s delays were related to those outages.
