Donald Trump is once again set to return to the White House after winning the latest American election to become the 47th President.
The President-Elect has been a controversial figure during his time in politics, but it’s not just his policies that has everyone talking. During his presidential campaign, it was his famed orange appearance that also garnered some attention.
Over the many years, Trump’s bronzed skin has been brought into question more than a few times. In fact, during the last few days of his race to become president, many noted that he looked “more orange than ever”.
While the 78 year-old has reportedly denied that he used any self-tan or bronzing products, American photo editor Emily Elsie recently shared her own theory that suggested his bronzer use is linked to his stress levels, using more when stressed.
However, since most of us prefer to look golden over the appearance of an Oompa Loompa, we have provided below a range of self-tans you can buy straight from the high street that don’t make you look orange at all.
St.Tropez Self Tan Express Mousse
Where to buy: Amazon – £15.99, down from £33
When it comes to fake tans, St. Tropez has long been a fan-favourite for many beauty buffs. This “fast acting” tan in particular has earned a stellar reputation with a 4.4 rating on Amazon.
The best thing about it is that you can customise your desired depth of tan to avoid looking too dark. You can wait between, one, two or three hours, depending on your preference.
Providing a “streak free” and “seamless” glow, many reviews have praised its ability to look natural and not orange at all. One such review read: “Perfect coverage, instant colour, and a perfect bronze! Not orange! Just gives a lovely dark shade! Lasts about a week! Can use on face and body.
I have used at tropez for the longest time! I have tried other brands I always come back St Tropez – nothing compares to the colour and the fact that it lasts is just exceptional.”
However, on the flip side, a more disappointed shopper said that it made them “orange” and “patchy”.

Dove Visible Glow Self-Tan Lotion Fair To Medium, 400ml
Where to buy: Superdrug – £4.66, down from £6.66
Looking for something a little more subtle than Trump’s orange-appearance? Then you should try the Dove Visibleglow Self Tan Lotion.
The light to medium shade has earned a positive review from beauty buffs, mainly down to its ability to create a light bronze effect “instantly”. Meanwhile, its lotion formula leaves your skin feeling “nourished for ages” and does not dry it out.
One five-star review on Superdrug read: “I love these as they leave a subtle tan and it doesn’t look fake. I made the mistake of trying a different brand but they were a waste of money. Nothing is better than these if you want a subtle natural looking tan.

Bondi Sands GLO Matte One Day Tan, 100ml
Where to buy: Boots – £7.33, down from £10.99
Bondi Sands is another instantly recognisable brand, with this one-day tan being one of its highest rated tans on the market.
Ideal for any special events you have planned, this self-tan has become popular for its “streak free” application that gives a “gorgeous, natural colour”. Said to be transfer and water-resistant, it easily washes off with soap, meaning it doesn’t leave you looking patchy overtime.
One glowing review on Boots read: “This is BY FAR the best instant tan I’ve used…and I’ve used a lot of ’em. My legs are super super pale (ginger, ’nuff said) and this gives such a gorgeous natural colour. Goes on so evenly with the Bondi Sands brush too. Love it.”
However, someone else said it took a while to look natural, writing: “Nice finish but was quite time consuming to blend it in to make it look natural.”

Coco & Eve Sunny Honey Bali Bronzing Foam, 200ml
Where to buy: Coco & Eve – £26
If there’s one tan that has become a cult-classic over the years, then it is Coco & Eve’s Honey Bali Bronzing Foam.
This viral tan is said to be “unbeatable” in terms of smell, glow and price point. Another selling point for beauty buffs is its anti-ageing qualities, as it “blurs imperfections” and “perfects skin”.
Available in three shades, one shopper said of its natural glow: “This is the nicest tan I’ve ever used and I’ve used a lot over the years. Doesn’t look orange, goes on really well! Smells amazing and nothing like tan usually does. Everyone always comments on how tanned I look and assumed I’ve been on holiday. Would highly recommend.”
Not all reviews were positive, as one shopper did find that the tan went “patchy”, as they wrote: “Love the colour but unfortunately it fades after only two days, and is very patchy when fading. I only use one layer so not sure why it fades so fast.”
