British supermodel Georgina Cooper has tragically died on a Greek island just months after she got married. According to her agent, the 46-year-old died on Kos a fortnight ago after she returned to the island with her new husband, Nigel.
The mum-of-one rose to fame in the nineties and became one of the iconic faces of the era. Georgina is pals with other stars of the catwalk, including Kate Moss, Jodie Kidd and Helena Christensen, The Mirror reports.
The MailOnline has reported that she quit her job in October to set up a bar on Kos before her death. According to the publication, Dean Goodman said of her devastating death: “She loved Greece and told me that she was going back with her new husband – but she tragically died there a fortnight ago. Georgina had been unwell during Covid and had developed some health problems and had been in and out of hospital.”
He added: “But she had plans for the future. She had just married and was looking forward to her life. Everybody is devastated. She was a genuine superstar.”
Georgina was first spotted by a modelling agency at the age of 13 and her breakthrough moment came when she appeared in a Bon Jovi music video just two years later, aged 15. She was suitably dubbed London’s “original gap toothed girl”, while working as a muse for renowned photographer, Corrine Day.
She featured on a host of fashion magazines, including Vogue. Known by her pals as George, the model quit life on the catwalk to focus on raising her son, Sonny, recently. She had been working in the hospitality sector in Kent.
Friend and fellow supermodel Jade Parfitt told MailOnline: “Her friends and family are absolutely devastated, Georgina was a ray of light, a very popular model who was riotous fun, always laughing and being naughty in all the best ways. We all wanted to hang out with George backstage. Her achievements in the industry were huge.”
Georgina walked down the aisle in June to marry soulmate Nigel near her home in Maidstone, Kent, surrounded by close friends and family. The wedding reception was held at a local pub.
Soon afterwards, the couple enjoyed their honeymoon in Kos, as they shared their special day on the island’s community Facebook page. At the end of October, Georgina then returned to the picturesque island and it was during this trip she sadly passed away after suffering with health issues, which reportedly stemmed from the pandemic.
In an Instagram post, Dean paid tribute to the star as he said: “I’m in total shock, and talked to her not long ago to meet up after she just got married. She was the original gap toothed girl! I will miss her immensely, rip in peace, georgie girl, I will never forget you and always love you, see you on the other side.”
