LAKELAND, Fla. (Gray News) – A young child was killed in a fiery Florida crash after their father and a good Samaritan tried to save them, deputies said.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said a vehicle with a father and his two young children went through an intersection, into a grassy, wooded area and crashed into a tree before catching fire.
The father and a good Samaritan worked to get the children out of the back seat. Deputies said the two were able to rescue one of the children, “but the other child tragically died in the fire.”
The father and surviving child were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. The good Samaritan was also treated at the hospital for burns they received while helping.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
