Celtic’s American central defensive duo Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty BOTH missed training ahead of Sunday’s Scottish Premiership trip to Kilmarnock.
The pair started the epic Champions League victory over RB Leipzig at Parkhead on Tuesday but Sky Sports report they were absent as Brendan Rodgers put his players through their paces at Lennoxtown just 48 hours before the Rugby Park away day. Ex Sheffield United man Trusty appeared to take a knock to his ankle in the first half while Carter Vickers was replaced by Liam Scales with 15 minutes left which will be a concern given the ex Tottenham Hotspur man has only recently returned from a toe injury.
Carter-Vickers has built up what is looking like a formidable central defensive partnership with his fellow US international Trusty. The summer signing from Sheffield United has taken his game to a new level alongside Carter-Vickers. It has given Celtic a solid foundation from which to build.
His fellow defender admitted: “Trusty has been really good since he’s come to the club. I always say a defensive partnership needs time. You need time to learn each other’s habits and stuff like that. But Trusty, since he’s come in, he’s been really good. So has Scalesy (Liam Scales) – this season, both of them have been really great.”
Celtic head to Ayrshire sitting at the league summit in pursuit of their fourth title in a row, although they could kick off three points behind Aberdeen if the Dons beat Dundee at Pittodrie in the Saturday tea time kick off.
