Kylian Mbappe is reportedly no longer willing to play for the French national team because of a plot among members of the press in his homeland to undermine him.
The Real Madrid superstar has been left out of the squad by Les Blues boss Didier Deschamps for next week’s Nations League double header against Israel and Italy, having also not been called up for the October internationals. A rift appears to be growing between Mbappe and Deschamps, despite the former Paris-Saint Germain star’s 48 goals in 86 caps for his country all coming under the two-time World Cup winner’s stewardship.
According to French investigative journalist Romain Molina, Mbappe, 25, has refused the chance to join back up with the squad as he believes some people in his country are out to get him. Molina adds that the player’s mother Fayza Lamari – who is also his agent – feels that a plot is growing against the forward, and that they will adopt an ‘us against the world’ mentality going forward.
Mbappe previously fired France to glory with five goals at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, where he was also named as the best young player of the tournament. Four years later, he picked up the golden boot at the finals in Qatar after scoring eight goals, three of which came in the penalty shootout defeat to Argentina in the final.
