WARREN COUNTY, Ohio (WXIX) – A 28-year-old man faces a mandatory life prison sentence after he was convicted of aggravated murder in the shooting death of a 23-year-old Warren County woman.
Elijah Thomas approached Katelyn Puckett as she returned to her Franklin apartment on June 17, 2023, and fired nine shots at her at close range in front of eyewitnesses, according to a news release from the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.
Six of the shots hit her, Franklin police said at the time.
Puckett died at the scene despite EMS crews attempting life-saving measures.
Thomas fled the scene but was later arrested.
A neighbor’s RING camera captured the shooting, prosecutors say, and family members revealed he made multiple violent threats to the victim in the days and weeks leading up to the shooting.
GPS evidence showed “Thomas had been lying in wait for more than 30 minutes before Puckett and her companions returned home,” the prosecutor’s office statement says.
Thomas will be sentenced on Nov. 26.
