Hamilton Accies Women boss Robert Watson insists his side won’t take their foot off the pedal after marching eight points clear of rivals Kilmarnock at the SWPL2 summit.
Watson’s side ran out convincing 4-0 winners over their nearest challengers at Rugby Park on Sunday, thanks to goals from Lauren Kerr, Josi Giard and first club goals for Keira Ritchie and 16-year-old Justine Strain.
It leaves Accies with some breathing space at the top of the table, but Watson say they won’t rest of their laurels.
He said: “I don’t think it is any secret that we want promoted and to do that we need to win the league.
“Eight points at this stage is brilliant but it doesn’t mean anything if you don’t continue putting good results together.
“We won’t be sitting off or relaxing. It is important we continue the work we’ve done so far.
“That’s our fifth league clean sheet in a row as well and we are getting the rewards for the work and preparation we are putting in.”
On the performance itself, he added: “We were expecting an incredibly tough match and when we get that early first goal, that sets you on your way.
“Josi and Justine putting us in that position leaves it for Kilmarnock to come and chase us and, from thereon in, we managed the game brilliantly.
“We were a little unlucky not to add another couple of goals.
“We are really starting to show the potential we showed early on in the season and we’re showing it consistently.”
Accies are back in action on November 15 when they host St Johnstone.
