Motherwell and Wishaw MSP Clare Adamson has welcomed new figures which show that 36,589 baby boxes have been delivered to support expectant parents across Lanarkshire.
Over 319,800 baby boxes have been delivered to expectant parents across Scotland – providing them with around £420 worth of essential items for their newborn.
The SNP MSP said: “The SNP is focused on making Scotland the best place to grow up. Over 35,000 baby boxes have been delivered to support expectant parents across Lanarkshire.
“The box provides £420 worth of items to support new families including some vital safety information that was included after campaigning from the Cross-Party Group on Accident Prevention and Safety Awareness – which I am privileged to chair.
“Recent analysis has shown that the Scottish Government’s approach to supporting infants, young people and their families is having significantly positive health outcomes – and the baby box is helping contribute to that.
“The SNP is determined that every child in Scotland should have the best possible start to life. And Best Start Grant and Best Start Food payments are providing crucial financial support to children at different stages.
“Some items needed with a new child can be prohibitively expensive. The baby box is making a huge difference to new families – especially during rising costs.”
All newborn babies in Scotland are given a box of essential items. The Baby Box is free and your midwife will help you register for it. This will happen during your 18 to 20 or 28 week antenatal appointment.
