AUSTIN, Texas — With Thanksgiving just around the corner, the Central Texas Food Bank is launching its largest-ever holiday meal distribution effort.

Earlier on Tuesday, KVUE caught up with volunteers who were busy loading up trucks with meals for thousands of families across Central Texas. Those we spoke with say they plan to distribute at least 30,000 meals throughout their 21-county service area this month.

“We are now serving over 530,000 food-insecure individuals, and one in five children are going to bed hungry,” said Central Texas Food Bank President and CEO Sari Vatske. “To help combat this need this year, we are doing 20 free turkey distributions throughout our 21 counties, including our other mobile pantries totaling 49 distributions just this month alone.”

Each meal includes a turkey and a few traditional Thanksgiving sides.

The food bank will hold a mobile distribution event later this month, where volunteers will hand out frozen turkeys to local families in need.

For those wanting to help, the food bank is always looking for volunteers and donations. For more information about the upcoming event and how you can get involved, visit the food bank’s website.
