MERCER COUNTY, W.Va. – The Salvation Army of Mercer County is once again going to be offering hotel rooms to those in need during the cold temperatures.
For the second year in a row the Mercer County Commission is helping out by giving The Salvation Army $5,000 to be used to offer hotel rooms for people with nowhere else to stay on cold nights. Last year the commission gave the non-profit $7,500 for the cause.
Some of that money is still left over as well and will still be available for the hotels rooms. Rooms will be provided for people if wind chill temperatures reach the single digits.
Anyone in need of a hotel room during cold nights should stop by The Salvation Army’s building located at 300 Princeton Avenue in Princeton.
“We‘re getting ahead of the schedule so that when the first cold comes we’ll have a provision already established. We’re also continuing to work towards a long term permanent solution in hopes of being able to in the future be able to offer an ulterior solution,” said Sgt. Melissa White.
White says the ultimate goal is to offer a permanent solution which would be to offer a warming station at The Salvation Army building in Princeton. White says they need volunteers to make it happen.
Anyone interested in volunteering in any capacity can call The Salvation Army of Mercer County at 304-425-2971.
