A New Jersey woman is dead after being run over by a 94-year-old driver trying to back out of a parking spot in East Windsor.

A 39-year-old man walking with the 68-year-old victim was also injured, police said Wednesday, according to NJ.com. The victims were related, but authorities did not say how.

The unidentified driver, who’s from Monroe, N.J., also crashed into a parked car after mistakenly hitting the gas pedal of his mid-sized vehicle while pulling out of the Town Center Plaza on Route 130, roughly 17 miles northeast of Trenton. Police said the accident occurred Thursday just after 5:30 p.m.

The woman killed, identified as Semra Ozkaya of Princeton, was taken to an area hospital, where she died days after the crash, police said. Her family member, also from Princeton, was treated for injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

The nonagenarian motorist was reportedly issued a summons for driving carelessly.

While elderly drivers are typically more likely to wear seatbelts, observe speed limits, refrain from drunk driving and avoid bad weather or traveling at night, they’re more likely to be killed or injured in traffic crashes due to various physical vulnerabilities that come with getting older, according to the New York State Office for the Aging.
