Police found video that showed people running from the homeless encampment after the stabbing, but haven’t identified any suspects.

AUSTIN, Texas — Austin police are investigating a deadly stabbing that happened over the weekend at a homeless encampment.

According to police, on Sunday, Nov. 10, officers responded to multiple calls about a stabbing on East William Cannon Drive near Bluff Springs Road.

The callers reported a man lying on metal rods on the ground who was bleeding from possible stab wounds. When they arrived, officers found 29-year-old Elijah Martinez bleeding from a wound in his chest. Martinez was taken to the hospital where he later died.

During their investigation, police said it was unclear if Martinez fell on something or had been attacked at a different location.

Police later found a video that showed multiple people running from a homeless encampment near the AutoZone on East William Cannon after Martinez was stabbed.

Currently, no suspects have been identified and no arrests have been made. Police ask anyone with information on the stabbing to call the homicide tipline at 512-974-TIPS. A reward of up to $1,000 may be available for information leading to an arrest.

Martinez’s death is under investigation as Austin’s 59th homicide of 2024.
