Married at First Sight fans reached their boiling point, calling for Kieran to be removed from their televisions.
The show concluded its ninth series on Thursday night (November 14). The final episode brought the couples back together to reflect on their relationships and personal growth throughout the experiment. However, the episode turned tense as uncomfortable truths were brought to light.
Kieran and ex-partner Kristina, once considered a darling couple in the series, faced a somber conclusion to their relationship, leaving expert Paul C. Brunson eager to uncover the root cause of their split.
As Kieran continued to praise Kristina, Paul pressed him: “So why are you not with her? What’s the real reason? ” Instead of Kieran responding, Kristina interjected, stating, “Kieran doesn’t want me.”
Fed up with Kieran’s attempts to explain himself, disgruntled viewers swarmed to social media to express their frustration. A viewer commented, “Wrap it up, Kieran, and get off my screen. I can’t deal with him,” reports the Mirror.
Meanwhile, others compared his treatment to fellow participant Adam, remarking, “It seems as though Kieran’s got off lightly compared to the way Adam has been treated… haven’t they done the same thing, apparently?”
Another expressed, “I can’t help feeling that Keiran lulled us all into thinking he was a genuine guy when, in reality, he was trying to use the show as a platform. Poor Stina is just collateral damage he didn’t take into consideration.”
A fourth disgruntled viewer chimed in, ” I think that’s what we’re all wondering, Paul. I can’t comprehend Keiran’s logic at all. He and Kristina are perfect for each other. I don’t understand how he could just flip and hurt her so deeply.”
However, some viewers empathised with Kieran’s viewpoint, with one commenting: “If Kieran is being truthful, then I understand why he can’t be with her. It’s just a terrible situation all around.”
Explaining his decision to end the relationship, Kieran admitted that he was always uneasy about Kristina potentially depending on him too much. He stated: “I would say one of the reasons is the way Kristina relies on a partner.
“I’m not saying I can’t be a support system, but I’ve been in that situation before, and it’s a trigger,” he confessed. He also mentioned that he might lack the “mental capacity” to assist Kristina, who had previously disclosed her struggle with PMDD.
Despite their romantic relationship ending, the duo confirmed that they would continue to be friends. Kristina also expressed her intention to invite Kieran to a gig, which he gladly accepted.
