We can’t believe we’re typing this, but Martin Lewis MBE is going to be joining Taskmaster.
The money expert, 52, will be on the comedy task show in a special New Year instalment – so no, he hasn’t forayed into the comedy world.
Usually the hit Channel 4 show sees a group of comedians compete against each other in a series of ridiculous tasks, and only one can be crowned winner and grab the grand prix: host and Taskmaster Greg Davies’ golden eyebrows.
Taskmaster season 18 has just wrapped up, with The News Quiz host Andy Zaltzman crowned winner this evening. Stand-up comic Jack Dee came second, with Ghosts actress Emma Sidi in third, while Celebrity Gogglebox star Babatunde Aléshé came fourth and comedian Rosie Jones in fifth.
As the final episode aired, fans didn’t have long to wait for the next announcement to drop, which sees Martin take on challenges alongside former England footballer David James MBE, academic Professor Hannah Fry, All Saints star Melanie Blatt, and actor Sue Johnston OBE.
Alongside Taskmaster Greg, the festive special titled Taskmaster’s New Year Treat will also see Alex Horne on assistant hosting duties as per.
In recent years, the show has become one of Channel 4’s most popular programmes, as its third most streamed title last year, and was crowned the best comedy entertainment show in 2022 and 2023.
Martin has become one of the UK’s most famous financial journalists, as he is known for creating money advice website Money Saving Expert.
He is also well-known for his numerous money-related TV shows, including The Martin Lewis Money Show Live, and he often makes guest appearances on shows including This Morning.
He is also a regular host of Good Morning Britain alongside Susanna Reid.
He first launched the website MoneySavingExpert.com in 2003 from his living room, with just £80 capital to get things going.
The concept (aiming to help people cut back on their bills) is now regarded as one of the most-trusted consumer websites in the country.
His weekly money tips email also fly into many inboxes around the country, while his site’s success has also seen him author many financial advice books.
In 2012, Martin sold the website to the MoneySupermarket.com group.
He was the site’s Editor-In-Chief until 2015, and in 2016 took on a new role as the Executive Chair of Money Saving Expert.
In 2022, Martin was named in the New Years Honours List, receiving a CBE for his services to broadcasting and consumer rights. He first received an OBE back in 2014.
The Sunday Times Rich List estimated Martin’s net worth at £123 million in 2021 – so maybe we really should listen to him…
