Irked Matt O’Riley admits he isn’t happy to see Brighton sitting in eighth spot in the Premier League.
And he has thrown down the gauntlet to his teammates to go after the English heavyweights like Manchester City and Liverpool – by getting into a winning habit just the way Celtic do. After a false start to his career at the AMEX Stadium when picking up a nightmare injury just minutes into his Seagulls debut, the Danish international announced himself to the Brighton support by netting the winning goal against City on his English top-flight debut.
And he has now gone a step forward by challenging his new teammates to capture the same mentality that he carried with him during his time in Glasgow’s east end – insisting that his new side can secure a spot in the upper reaches of the table. He told The Argus: “I don’t like sitting eighth in the table.
“I’ve just come from Celtic so of course I’m used to a place where they win all the time. But the intention should always be to be as high up the table as you can. I don’t see why not.
“People look at teams like City and Liverpool and think they are expected to win it, but they are just people who are good at football. Why can’t we be people who are good at football?”
