CHARLESTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The State Supreme Court has a petition on file that could be key to starting the high school football playoffs in West Virginia.
A procedural error has delayed movement in the case most of the day Nov. 14.
The West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission is asking the Supreme Court to overturn a Wood County decision.
That original ruling that was entered on Saturday had changed playoff matchups and how many playoff points teams received.
It also resulted in four teams, including two from our area, being eliminated from the playoffs without ever taking the field.
Together with the petition, the WVSSAC, is asking the court for an expedited decision in hopes of getting the playoffs started.
Meanwhile, there remains talk of two potential play-in games for Saturday, involving Point Pleasant, Capital and St. Albans from our region.
However, everything will remain in limbo until the court acts.
