St Patrick’s Primary School and Nursery Class in Shotts has been praised for its leadership and strong community values.
The Education Scotland inspection, which took place in May, involved discussions with parents, carers, pupils, and staff members, and a close evaluation of the school’s approach to education and pupil development.
Inspectors praised the school’s strong, compassionate leadership, led by the head teacher and supported by senior staff, which they noted has fostered a “safe, caring, and nurturing” learning environment.
Josephine Steel, head teacher of St Patrick’s Primary, said: “We are very proud of the positive feedback we received from HMIE in our recent inspection report.
“I am delighted that the inspectors recognised the school’s nurturing environment and the wonderful relationships we have forged across our school, parish and local community.
“Our staff work tirelessly to ensure we are providing a curriculum that meets the needs of all our children, and it is encouraging to know that our endeavours to improve children’s learning has been recognised.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank our incredible children, parents and partners for their continued dedication and support, together we will strive to build upon our successes to further improve our school for all our learners.”
This supportive atmosphere, they reported, allows children to thrive both academically and socially.
Additionally, inspectors found that senior leaders and teachers closely monitor and track pupil progress, enabling them to deliver tailored interventions. This approach has resulted in improvements in children’s educational development.
Pupils were observed to be confident, well-behaved, and proud of their school. Inspectors described the relationships between students and staff as warm and respectful, creating a strong sense of community and mutual respect across the school.
Councillor Michael McBride, convener of the council’s Education, Children and Families Committee congratulated everyone at the school on their successful report.
“The report highlights the dedication of the staff at St Patrick’s Primary School in creating a safe and nurturing learning environment for every child,” he said.
“I am confident that the school will build on these strengths and take forward the recommended improvements to enhance the educational experience even further.”
In looking to the future, inspectors suggested ways the school could further enhance its teaching methods.
They recommended that staff refine planning practices and expand play-based learning approaches, aiming to create an even more enriching experience for every child.
They also encouraged more opportunities for staff collaboration, allowing teachers to share best practices and innovative strategies to boost student success.
