HINTON, W.Va. – The middle school students in Summers County have a new building to learn and exercise in.
Three years ago, Summers County leaders began building a new middle school addition to the Summers County High School.
Today, officials at the county and state level joined students in celebrating the opening of the new addition.
The School Building Authority of West Virginia backed that entire project to make sure students in the county had a new, up to date learning environment.
Executive Director Andy Neptune of the School Building Authority says the $12 million project was worth the wait for the students and community.
“Obviously to be able to increase the size of the school and be able to get the middle school kids into their own area and new gymnasium,” said Neptune. “I really think it’s a feather in the cap for this community and for summer county schools.”
Two students from each grade had the opportunity to win a basketball signed with their entire class to later be placed in the new trophy case.
