Scotland are aiming to bounce back with victory over underdogs Portugal in the third of four pulsating Test matches at Murrayfield this autumn.
Gregor Townsend’s men were outstanding in a 57-17 victory over Fiji in Edinburgh but were bettered 15-32 by reigning world champions South Africa at the weekend. Portugal are next up and are in need of a confidence boost after recent losses to the Springboks and the USA.
The neutrals’ favourite at last year’s Rugby World Cup, this is a first visit to Scottish Gas Murrayfield for the team that lit up 2023’s tournament. Having performed admirably against Wales and Australia, Os Lobos (The Wolves) drew with Georgia in one of the most exciting games of the tournament, before going on to cause one of the biggest upsets in the tournament’s history when they beat Fiji 24-23.
Although they have played each other in the international 7s circuit, Scotland and Portugal have only met twice before at this level, in a qualifying game for the 1999 Rugby World Cup, and at the Rugby World Cup in 2007. Thousands of fans have already got tickets to attend the game at Murrayfield but if you can’t make it to Murrayfield or weren’t able to get a ticket then you will still be able to catch all the action live on TV and online.
