Fans have urged Netflix viewers to watch ‘Ben Affleck’s best movie’ streaming now ahead of its surprise sequel set to be released next year.
The Accountant was originally released in 2016 and is now available on the platform, with a follow up already scheduled for 2025.
In the film, Ben Affleck plays accountant Christian Wolff, who is on the autistic spectrum. As a child, his father refuses to send him to a neuroscientific treatment centre at the request of his mother. Instead, Wolff’s father uses his military background to train him and his brother in martial arts and handling weapons.
As an adult, Christian becomes a forensic accountant who helps illegal organisations sanitise their financial records and ‘uncooks’ their books.
When the FBI start to grow suspicious of him, he takes on a state-of-the-art robotics company as a legitimate client. As Wolff gets closer to the truth about a discrepancy that involves millions of dollars, the body count starts to rise.
Affleck is joined in the film by Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons and Jon Bernthal.
A sequel was first mentioned way back in 2017 but with as time passed it seems many fans forgot it existed. The possibility of a third entry was also suggested with filming off the sequel not taking place until March last year.
Now, fans have urged those who have yet to see the original film to catch up on what many believe is one of Ben Affleck’s best performances. Sharing their thoughts on Rotten Tomatoes, one fan said: “Without a doubt Ben Affleck’s best movie. Seen this numerous times and enjoy it each time. Stoked to here the sequel is in the works.”
Another added: “The Accountant is an insane thriller, which is sadly messy and has plenty of tone issues, but those are probably my only complaints of this. This is a great story with a great cast and some banging action, and the twists in this were great as well.”
Fan reaction is much more favourable since the films release than the initial critical reception as one person posted: “I’m with the audience on this one, The Accountant is an excellent, fast moving movie. I could perhaps say its Ben Affleck ‘s best performance to date. Well worth two hours of your time.”
Other cinephiles have expressed their pleasant surprise that The Accountant 2 is on the way so soon, after it has been handed an R rating in the US for strong violence and language throughout.
One posted on X: “The accountant is still one of the best movies ever created. I can only hope accountant 2 is half as good.” Another agreed: “I didn’t know until now there will be Accountant 2, but I will watch it for sure. The 1st was a banger!”
The Accountant is streaming on Netflix, The Accountant 2 releases in 2025.
