Prince William and Kate Middleton have established their own parenting rules for their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. The royal pair have reportedly adopted a unique approach to discipline, avoiding the commonly used “naughty step” method.
Instead of time-outs, they emphasise conversation and understanding to shape their children’s behaviour. A source revealed to Fabulous Magazine: “There’s no ‘naughty step’ but there is a ‘chat sofa’.”
The insider explained that when one of the children misbehaves, they are taken aside by either parent for a calm discussion.
They said: “The naughty child is taken away from the scene of the row or disruption and talked to calmly by either Kate or William.”
They added that the royal parents always remain composed, stating: “Things are explained and consequences outlined and they never shout at them,” as reported by the Express. The source disclosed: “Shouting is absolutely ‘off limits’ for the children and any hint of shouting at each other is dealt with by removal.”
They also revealed that the Duke and Duchess’s Norland-trained nanny, Maria Borrallo, aligns all decisions with the royal couple, reports Cambridgeshire Live.
The source further explained: “It is a military operation but you would never guess it because they work ferociously hard on their children’s upbringing and making it seem relaxed and happy for the three of them.”
Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo is said to earn a whopping salary of up to £120,000 per year. Ms Borrallo, who graduated from the prestigious Norland College in Bath, joined the royal household in 2014 when Prince George was about eight months old and has been a constant figure ever since.
Last year, a royal commentator suggested that Ms Borrallo will have a significant impact on the young royals’ futures. Pauline Maclaran commented on her potential “strong influence” on the children and her role in keeping them grounded.
She stated: “I think royal nannies play important roles in the lives of royal children. Apart from looking after their everyday needs and security, they can also offer a lot of support in developing the children’s cognitive and social skills.”
Ms Macalaran pointed out that Ms Borrallo is not only crucial in raising the children but can also “offer important emotional support that ensures strong bonds will remain even when the children are adults”. Despite Ms Borrallo’s significant role, Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly very involved parents.
