A South Carolina teacher is accusing a 10-year-old student of sexual harassment.
The child has been placed on a “no-hug policy,” according to WCNC in North Carolina. The Lancaster County educator’s complaint alleges the child has put his head on her chest while hugging her and pressed his body against hers.
She drew the line earlier this month when the boy “approached her from behind, pressed his body into hers, and put his hands on her hip/side area,” her complaint reported said.
The teacher said she’d earlier told the child “hugging from behind is very inappropriate” and warned him not to do it again.
The boy’s mother said she was unaware there was a problem and doesn’t understand how the situation escalated to the point of a formal complaint.
She calls her son a “very loving child.”
The Lancaster County School District told WCNC its goal is “to provide a safe environment for all our students and staff.”
Administrators are reviewing evidence and expects to make an official decision on the complaint as early as the end of the year.
