Paddy McGuinness tucked into a Greggs sausage roll as he had a laugh with locals on a pit stop in East Kilbride this morning.
The BBC Radio 2 presenter has now completed the final leg of his Ultra Endurance Cycle Challenge for Children in Need riding from Strathaven to Glasgow after clocking 265 miles traversing across Wales, England and Scotland in a Raleigh Chopper.
But he had time to stop for a tasty pastry to help fuel him on the last leg of his epic challenge and chatted with a large crowd of excited well wishers who lined the rain-soaked car park outside Greggs at the Kingsgate Retail Park in East Kilbride.
After staying at the Strathaven Hotel last night, this morning at 6.45am, Paddy set off for the final 18.5 miles of his incredible cycling challenge.
He completed almost 300 miles from Wrexham to Glasgow across five days, through Wales, England and Scotland, all on a little Raleigh Chopper nicknamed Patch.
Zoe Ball kept everyone up to speed on Paddy’s progress on the breakfast show as he cycled through East Kilbride and Rutherglen towards the city centre.
She spoke to Sir Tom Hunter who greeted Paddy at Greggs and pledged to match every donation up to an incredible £3million.
Paddy told her: “As usual at this time of the morning, everything is sore, everything is aching but again I’ve just rocked up here where I’m going to set off, it’s dark, it’s a little bit drizzly, and people are already here to wish me well so you can’t not be in a positive mind about that.
“I’m going down into East Kilbride, people are out, they’re ringing bells, the sun is just coming up and it’s the best part of the day. I can really see people’s faces, I love it! I’m going to miss this. I’m absolutely broken but I’ve never been as happy, honestly.”
Commenting on his surprise appearance, Sir Tom Hunter said: “The Hunter Foundation has been involved in Children in Need right from Sir Terry Wogan’s days. Every year we think up things to do.
“When I saw that he was getting on a Chopper, which I used to buy and sell when I was 12 years old, and I thought, that man is going to struggle, so he needs all the help he can get.
“I absolutely believe the great British public has taken Paddy and the challenge to their hearts. I want to tell you Paddy here and now – an official National Treasure.”
The total raised for Children in Need this morning was a whopping £6,577,494.
