If you’re looking to purchase a good quality gift for a whisky lover ahead of Christmas, then Amazon has been the go-to place for deals recently.

Of course, one’s preference of single malt can depend on the flavour. For those who are maybe not keen on one heavy with smoke and peat, then the Bowmore 12 Years Old Aged Scotch might be suited to your palette.

Reviews have praised this bottle’s “great balance” of a variety of flavours that make it appealing to all whisky lovers. On Amazon, you can bag a bottle ahead of Christmas and Black Friday for just £28.34, down from £45 – a 37 percent saving off the RRP.

This award-winning tipple has been matured in quality oak casks by the Islay coasts. It boasts an “infusion of flavour”, with signature notes of the firm’s trademark peat smoke appealing to those who prefer a traditional taste.

However, the addition of sweet honey and zesty lemon give this whisky a bit of a twist, making it a more “gentle” drink that’s not as overpowering as others on the market. Each sip also provides notes of dark chocolate to give it a bit of depth.

With an impressive 4.7 rating on Amazon based on over 6,000 global reviews, the Bowmore 12 Years Old Age Single Malt Whisky has stood the test of time, with many whisky connoisseurs praising its “subtle” and “smooth” flavours.

One whisky fan said: “You will not be disappointed with this subtle peaty number with it’s lemon and honey tones! The first sip is earthy, and yet, once the two taste tones kick in almost instantly, you begin to encounter the infusion of flavours hitting the palate!

“I Have to admit, I don’t normally finish off a twelve year old so quickly but with another one on the way, it’s a shame to keep this one hanging around.”

A second Amazon user said: “A lovely gentle malt with subtle flavours. No setting throats on fire with this stuff. There is a delightful lemony zest to it and it accompanies a late evening pale ale or wheat beer to perfection. Also – at least at the time of writing – an exceptionally good price.”

Another shopper wrote: “Smooth, with strong hint of lemon, honey and vanilla. Just the right amount of smoke. Some whisky’s are for special occasions, or when the mood strikes me, but this is one of the few that I’d happily drink one any given evening.”

And another added: “This is part of the core range from Bowmore. The flavour and the depth of it is akin to drams that are much more expensive. It’s a lovely tipple and is cracking value at the price.”

The subtle flavours haven’t been to everyone’s taste, with one three-star critique reading: “It’s OK, but doesn’t leave memorable taste. I recommend to rather buy the 15 year Bowmore, which despite of the additional cost, is in my view better value for money.”
