Strictly Come Dancing fans were left raising their eyebrows during Saturday night’s performance.
Reality TV’s Pete Wicks, partnered with Jowita Przysta, took to the dance floor in an eye-catching ensemble to bust out a Cha Cha to Right Said Fred’s I’m Too Sexy.
But as soon as Pete appeared in his vibrant PVC trousers and flamboyant faux fur coat, viewers were frantically expressing their dismay on social media.
The TOWIE star’s bold fashion statement complete with tight PVC in neon pink, a translucent shirt, flashy sunglasses, topped off with a voluminous hot pink fake fur coat didn’t sit well with some fans who felt he had been “stitched up” by the wardrobe department.
Discontent was voiced across Twitter, with one user querying: “Wtf? Weird singing, tempo too slow, pink plastic jeans. What have they done to pirate Pete?” reports the Mirror.
Others chimed in, with sentiments ranging from amusement at the snugness of his trousers “I really loved that one but Pete’s trousers were a bit too tight for comfort #strictly.”
To empathy for the thematic mismatch: “Pete Wicks has been royally stitched up with this week’s song and costume! A bit of a shame to go back to silly after his couple’s choice.”
Despite mixed reviews on his costume, support shone through: “Poor Pete was stitched up completely this week but he’s got my votes,” whilst another tweeted in caps lock excitement: “OH PETE THE ICON YOU ARE.”
After completing his cha-cha, host Tess Daley couldnt help but chuckle as she remarked, “Pete, Pete, Pete, you’ve changed!”
In response to Tess’ comment and amidst the shimmering fall of his diamante hat, Pete humorously claimed ignorance, insisting he hadn’t the foggiest about what Tess meant.
He responded: “When people say to me that Strictly changes you, I imagine this is not what they thought I was going to end up as.”
Praising his outfit as ‘perfection’, it was then over to the judges for their verdict on the dance, but Shirley Ballas couldn’t contain her laughter.
Overcome with giggles and visibly flustered, she exclaimed: “Oh my god, Oh, let me think. You know what, calm myself down, you had some very good isolation. You had a very clean neckline. Isolation of the upper half of the body!
“Your hips were swinging left and right, I mean it was very entertaining. I don’t think I’m ever going to forget this evening for as long as I live darling, well done!”
Anton Du Beke, seated next to her, humorously fanned Shirley with his hands in an attempt to cool her off following Pete’s performance. In the end, Pete and Jowita received a combined score of 27 points for their routine.
