Flying in bad weather can be very nerve-wracking, what with all of the additional turbulence and the worry of what might happen if your plane has to be diverted away from the airport you’re hoping to land at.

However, a viral video posted to TikTok and reported on by Newsweek has shown that it is possible to land a plane during seriously heavy rain – in fact, the two pilots featured in the clip manage to do it with style.

The video was recorded by a TikTok user called @damailufta, a flight attendant. It shows a Boeing 737 plane landing at Sola Airport near Stavanger, Norway, during some seriously wet weather last month. Since then it has blown up online , garnering three million views so far and over a thousand comments from impressed viewers.

She captioned the one-minute long video: “This was the day I learned that planes have wiper blades.”

It shows the final descent of the plane as it touches down in heavy rain, with the wiper blades going ten to the dozen as it lands.

In the clip, you can also hear a countdown describing how close the aircraft is getting to the ground, as well as admiring the extensive number of controls that the pilots have to deal with in order to get their passengers safely to their destination.

People took to the comments to share their amazement, with one person joking: “These windshield wipers are fighting for their lives.”

Others suggested that the wiper blades looked a bit cheap and “basic”, with one commenter writing: “The plane: $45m from Boeing. The wipers: $15 from Walmart.”

Another person said that the video had reassured them about flying in future, saying: “So basically I need to stop panicking because the pilots are cool as can be,” to which @damailufta replied: “Yes! Full control.”

This isn’t the only video of a plane landing in bad weather that’s gone viral lately.

On Wednesday, November 13, a cockpit passenger captured the dramatic moment a pilot brought a plane down at a Spanish airport amidst severe red-level storms.

Despite the onslaught of torrential rain and powerful winds, the aircraft managed to make a successful landing on Runway 12 at Malaga Airport, which was partially flooded due to the severe weather.

Residents have been cautioned against non-essential travel after the Spanish State Meteorological Agency issued a red alert. Predictions suggest up to 120mm of rainfall in Malaga, Guadalhorce Valley and Axarquia.
