There were more worrying scenes for Hungary as their Nations League clash with the Netherlands was stopped for seven minutes due to a medical emergency on the bench.

Early reports suggest that a member of the Magyars’ backroom staff needed emergency medical treatment in the away dugout in Amsterdam during their match with the Dutch. Play eventually resumed, but only after a concerning delay in which players watched on anxiously as medical staff did their thing.

It’s the second time this year Hungary have seen one of their matches paused due to one of their own needing swift attention. They hit a last gasp winner to end Scotland‘s Euro 2024 dream in Germany over the summer, and the amount of stoppage time was due to a sickening head knock suffered by striker Barnabas Varga, who was taken straight from the pitch to hospital after appearing to land awkwardly and appeared to be unconscious.

Both sets of players looked spooked on that occasion, although play was eventually able to resume and the news on Vargas was positive after being taken to hospital. He was visited by his national team coach and some teammates there the following day.

The individual has not yet been named on this occasion, although was taken up the tunnel for further treatment before the match got under way again. Holland lead 1-0 thanks to Ajax striker Wout Weghorst’s first half spot kick.
