LAS VEGAS, Nev. (KVVU/Gray News) – A Las Vegas animal shelter is treating eight 2-week-old puppies that were found in a dumpster inside a trash bag.
The Animal Foundation said one puppy had to be euthanized because of blood in its chest.
The shelter said the puppies were rescued by a good Samaritan, and that the person responsible for leaving them in the dumpster is in police custody.
The puppies came to the shelter along with their mother and two dogs.
The shelter said they were found with a “cleaning product” inside the trash bag. The effects this product may have had on the puppies are not yet known.
“These are tiny, vulnerable puppies who barely have their eyes open, and someone chose to throw them away like trash,” the shelter said in a statement. “Thanks to the hero who heard their cries, they’re now getting a fresh start. Due to their young age, the puppies are highly susceptible to illness. Ideally, they will move into a foster home to give them the best chance at thriving outside the shelter environment.”
The Animal Foundation said it thanks the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Animal Protective Services for their help.
