Raging Celtic boss Elena Sadiku was banned from giving a post-match interview to TV cameras after she was sent off against Rangers.
The Swede went tonto on the touchline and was initially shown yellow for her angry reaction to the decision to award their title rivals a penalty for a foul by Shannon McGregor. Katie Wilkinson converted from 12 yards to put Rangers 2-1 up in a game they went on to win 3-2. And after the yellow card was brandished, Sadiku was seen sarcastically applauding in the direction of the match official.
That gesture earned her a second booking and Sadiku was visibly furious when she made her way up the stairs to take her seat in the stand. Post-match, much of Sky Sports’ reaction was about the penalty award and Sadiku’s reaction. But after Rangers boss Jo Potter gave her interview, host Eilidh Barbour revealed her counterpart wouldn’t be speaking.
The anchor said: “We were hoping to speak with Celtic boss Elena Sadiku but unfortunately the officials won’t let her out to speak with us because she was sent off.” Rules dictate that after a manager has received a red card, they “must leave the vicinity of the field of play and the technical area.” And with the Sky Sports team set up pitchside, this is likely why Sadiku was not permitted to return by the officiating team.
