Kevin O’Hara admits Hamilton Accies will need to endure a video nasty tomorrow, but says they’re rallying round each other to try and get out of their current slump.
Heavy back-to-back defeats against Partick Thistle and Livingston, at 5-1 and 3-1, respectively, have slid Hamilton down to seventh in the Championship as they await Raith Rovers at New Douglas Park on Saturday.
The manner of the defeat at Firhill was particularly poor for Accies, with Scott Robinson putting them 2-0 ahead inside 19 minutes, before O’Hara pulled a goal just before half-time.
But any thoughts of a fightback were quickly dispelled as Brian Graham notched a double either side of a Logan Chalmers strike.
“We need to look back on it and see where we can improve,” said O’Hara.
“The same as every Monday after a defeat or a win, we’ll look back at the video to see what went wrong, and some positives that we can take from the game.
“But there are more negatives this week to look at.
“It was a really bad day at the office. I don’t think we started the game very well.
“Partick were hungrier than us, won more fights in the midfield and all over the pitch, so we were disappointed with that.
“We got a lifeline with my goal, going into half-time at 2-1, the momentum changed a wee bit, but we conceded so early in the second half, and there were some really bad goals.
“It was a bit of a collapse after that. Partick obviously did well to score give, but the standard of goals we lost were poor, more mistakes from players than anything else.
“But that happens in football, so we’ll rally round each other and go again for next week.”
One positive O’Hara can take from the game is that he notched his sixth goal of the season, and third in as many games – but it didn’t provide the boost Accies wanted.
He said: “It’s a positive for myself, getting on the scoresheet three weeks in a row, now.
“I had a slow start to the season, but since I’ve moved back up front with Oli Shaw, I seem to be getting myself back in the goal-scoring areas.
“But the result is far from good enough.
“We spoke about it at half-time, that the momentum had changed a bit in our favour.
“We wanted to come out and try to get the next goal and see what we could do from there.
“But them scoring so early in the second half was a bit of a sucker-punch and it put us with our backs against the wall again.”
Fans reacted to the defeat in Maryhill, and O’Hara says they’re not blind to that.
He said: “We can see their frustration, coming away from home, and you should never concede five goals in a game.
“The performance has to be better, it’s a really bad day at the office, so I can see why they’re frustrated.”
