BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB/Gray News) – A woman in Florida is accused of using her mother’s identity to apply for hurricane and telling city employees that she looked so much younger because of Botox, according to authorities.

Bradenton Police said 44-year-old Veronica Torres used her mother’s name, driver’s license and social security information to apply for the City of Bradenton’s Hurricane Disaster Assistance Program claiming she was forced to move out of her home due to hurricane damage.

Her request for nearly $8,000 was approved.

When the 44-year-old arrived to pick up the check, a city employee challenged her on her appearance compared to the age in the application.

“Her explanation of ‘Botox treatments’ failed to convince the employee,” police said.

Torres was asked to return on Friday, but instead of receiving the check, she was arrested.

She was charged with a third-degree felony count of filing a false public assistance claim.

The case did not appear to be in online court records Saturday, and it was unclear if Torres had an attorney who could speak on her behalf.

After posting a $2,500 bond, jail records show she is out of jail
