Dumbarton are reportedly set to enter administration on Tuesday and will also be hit by a huge points deduction that will see them drop to the foot of League One.

The Sons currently sit in 8th position in the third tier with 15 points from 14 games, a point clear of Annan in the relegation zone and 11 above Inverness – who were docked 15 points themselves after going into administration earlier this season. But SunSport now state the cash-strapped club’s future will now be in the hands of administrators after feint hopes of some last-minute investment failed to materialise.

A 15 point-deduction will see Dumbarton‘s tally completely wiped out. However, they also add that redundancies in the playing squad or not likely due to the small size of the playing squad at The Rock already. They also report that boss Stephen Farrell – who has been in charge of Dumbarton since May 2021 – could be asked to stay on to help the Sons try and battle against relegation.

Furthermore, the report also states that interest in taking over the running of the club is high. The West Dunbartonshire side only secured promotion back to Scotland’s third tier last season by coming up through the League Two play-offs.
