The Giants are benching Daniel Jones coming out of their bye week and replacing him with Tommy DeVito, according to multiple reports.
Benching Jones likely means shutting him down as the emergency third quarterback due to a $23 million injury guarantee for the 2025 season if he gets injured in a game or at the Giants’ facility during practice or training.
GM Joe Schoen signed backup QB Drew Lock to a one-year, $5 million guaranteed contract in the offseason, but now Schoen and Brian Daboll are skipping over Lock to go to DeVito, the second-year local undrafted free agent who went 3-3 in six starts last year.
Jones has been the Giants’ scapegoat for their 2-8 start, but now he will no longer be on the field.
More losses should help the Giants land their next franchise quarterback in April’s draft, but total dysfunction could wipe out Schoen and Daboll and leave the Giants in the hiring line for a new coach and GM.
