Lorraine Kelly has opened up about her sorrow at seeing more families having to turn to baby banks for vital support this Christmas.
The Scots ITV host, who recently became a grandmother for the first time after her daughter Rosie welcomed baby Billie in August, is backing the heartfelt Lorraine’s Big Baby Bank Appeal, Bristol Live reports.
This fresh campaign seeks to round up crucial supplies to assist families struggling in the lead-up to the festive season. Lorraine, 64, said: “I was so sad to hear of the stories of parents having to turn to baby banks for all kinds of basics from nappies to cots and clothes.”
Lorraine elaborated further: “Not just people struggling because they can’t find work, but those in employment who don’t earn enough to give their babies all that they need through no fault of their own. It’s wonderful that baby banks are there to give support and dignity but how I wish we didn’t actually need them. I know our wonderful viewers will help.”
The UK faces a haunting reality where an estimated 4.3 million children live in poverty, with one million on the brink of sheer destitution due to the relentless cost of living spike sending households nationwide into a financial free fall.
Supermarket retailer Morrisons has stepped up to support Lorraine’s heartfelt initiative, rolling out 497 donation stations across their outlets for two weeks.

Lorraine, who is currently embracing the joys of being a grandmother, opened up about her experiences with a local baby bank. She recounted meeting parents in need, including one mother who had previously relied on the baby bank’s support and is now facing hardship again during her pregnancy after losing her job.
She recalled: “I met a lot of the parents, one of whom needed help when she was very young and had her daughter. And then she donated to the baby bank herself when she got back on her feet. ”
She continued: “She’s now pregnant and lost her job so needs their help again. I also donated some of the clothes and equipment that Billie has grown out of and helped sort out some of the little outfits and blankets donated.”
Reflecting on her granddaughter’s fortunate circumstances, Lorraine expressed gratitude for Billie’s supportive environment. She said: “It’s so important that babies are fed and clothed properly and given the best start in life. My granddaughter Billie is so lucky to have two working parents who can give her all she needs.
“Billie is the light of my life and thriving thanks to the love and care of Rosie and her Steve.”
The arrival of her first grandchild filled Lorraine with immense joy, as she described the excellent parenting skills of Rosie and Steve. Speaking fondly of her daughter and son-in-law, she said: “They are brilliant parents, I love having them to visit and getting lots of cuddles.”
