A devastating house fire sparked by a tumble dryer has left a mum and her two young children with ‘nothing’.

The blaze ripped through the family’s Edinburgh home on November 7 after the tumble dryer in their home caught fire downstairs.

Distraught mum Abby was able to get her two young boys and their dog out safely but their property has been left significantly damaged.

No one was injured in the fire but the two siblings, who are aged 18 months and 10, lost all their possessions including clothes and toys.

Their bedrooms also saw considerable smoke damage, Abby told Edinburgh Live. She said: “Smoke particles got into everything. All the boys’ toys downstairs are gone. Their games, football stuff, everything. The conservatory was the playroom and that’s completely gone. It’s literally just the bricks that are left. The windows have melted, everything’s gone in there.”

The family is currently hopping between loved ones’ homes until they have a more permanent living situation.

Mum-of-two Abby said: “With Christmas coming up, we’re a bit nervous about where we’re going to be for the holidays. The insurance offered a hotel room for the four of us and our dog, which isn’t going to work.

“It hasn’t quite hit us yet. We’ve lost everything but we need to find somewhere to live.”

Abby said the family was grateful for the “overwhelming” support they had received from the community. Boys from her son’s school donated football gear and a PlayStation, their local Scotmid supplied nappies and clothes for their youngest, and a Sainsbury’s provided a school uniform for their 10-year-old.

She added: “The amount of help we’ve had from the community has helped us quite a lot. We have nothing. You don’t realise how devastating a fire can be until you’ve been through it. The main thing is we’re all safe. Even though we’ve lost everything, we’re all fine.”
