A Scots swimming pool is having to pump drainage water into its car park amid ongoing failures at the facility. Images from the Royal Commonwealth Pool in Edinburgh show two pipes emptying drainage water into the rear car park, with some vehicles’ front tyres submerged in the water.
It comes as the pool initially closed on November 4 after an issue leading to ‘no water’ in the pool, reports Edinburgh Live. One regular pool-goer raised concerns with our sister title.
They said: “I really think this should be made aware to the public, people have no option but to park and walk through it.”
Now, leisure bosses in the capital have quickly dispelled rumours of the water being sewage and assured users the drainage has no health risks.
An Edinburgh Leisure spokesperson said: “We acknowledge the recent concerns regarding water management at the Royal Commonwealth Pool, which is due to a recent technical issue with our facility’s sump pump, which caused our venue to close for a half a day some weeks back.
“Due to the sump pump temporary failure, we have had to remove water into the staff car park area. The water is categorically NOT sewage, but drainage water.
“There are no health risks associated with this water discharge. We have an active remediation plan to fully resolve the pump system problems.
“Our priority remains the safety and comfort of both customers and staff. We are working with our maintenance team to permanently resolve the sump pump functionality and prevent any future drainage disruptions.”
