A golf club a stone’s throw from Glasgow has been named as serving the top fish tea in Scotland.
The Scottish Fish and Chip Awards 2024 recently unveiled their winners, with takeaways and restaurants across the country taking home prizes. The award for Best Fish Tea went to Hayston Golf Club in Kirkintilloch.
As reported by Glasgow Live, the golf club is situated on Campsie Road. The scenic course, designed by James Braid, is a haven for golf enthusiasts.
Hayston Golf Club is now set to attract visitors eager to sample its award-winning chippy dish. The unique offering includes a special Glasgow twist — batter infused with Tennent’s lager.
Visitors can enjoy fish and chips at the golf club between Tuesday and Sunday, from 12pm to 4pm. Meanwhile, the award-winning fish tea is available on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Priced at £25 for two, the dish features freshly beer-battered Scottish haddock accompanied by chips. It also comes with house-made tartare sauce, a wedge of lemon, and of course bread and butter.
Hayston Golf Club head chef Iain Murphy commented: “We are delighted and humbled to accept the best fish tea in Scotland Award. It’s a really proud moment for us and great to see the teams hard work being recognised.
“We’d like to thank all our customers and all those who took the time to vote.”
The team at Hayston Golf Club expressed their gratitude to “fantastic fish supplier” Bernard Corrigan Ltd., stating that the award wouldn’t have been possible without their supply of fresh Scottish fish. They also thanked Tennent’s, which contributes to their popular crisp batter.
Front of House and Bar Manager Caitlin Houston added: “We are delighted to have been awarded best fish tea in Scotland, this is a great achievement for the team and golf club. We are excited to welcome people in for the best fish tea.”
