BLUEFIELD, W. Va. -Thursday, November 28th, 2024, is, of course, Thanksgiving, but it’s also the start of West Virginia Christmas City’s annual celebration: the “Holiday of Lights.”

The City of Bluefield is still doing the last-minute electrical work needed to bring their more than 1.3 million Christmas light display to life. While the remnants of Hurricane Helene earlier this year did create damage to the park where this display is held, it won’t stop the holiday tradition’s annual debut, with the Mistletoe Market making its return to the park on the following Friday for those wanting to do some Christmas shopping with local vendors.

There will be new attractions as well, with new light displays and new live entertainment from singer Lily Comer and choirs. Kids might also see the Grinch and Mr. And Mrs. Santa Claus on some nights.

“This is going to be the best event around. I mean… it’s joyous, it’s celebrating, it’s family time. I mean, what better way to celebrate the holidays than all pile in a car, turn on the Christmas music, and see the beautiful displays…” says Felicia Holcomb, executive assistant to Bluefield’s city manager.

Holcomb says there are still huts available to other vendors wanting to take part in the Mistletoe Market, just contact Candy Sayers through her email, [email protected], or by phone 304-327-2401 ext. 2490.

The Christmas tree lighting will be held on November 25th at 6 pm. If you would like more information on the date and times for these events, you can go the City of Bluefield’s website and Facebook page or the official West Virginia’s Christmas City website.
