With the festive season upon us, it’s finally time to take advantage of the many advent calendars in the shops.
The traditional advent calendar is a crucial part of the Christmas tradition for many, with kids and adults alike indulging in a chocolate, receiving a toy or enjoying an illustration from behind a cardboard door each day from December 1.
More recently, brands have come up with their own, more high-end versions of advent calendars, filled with anything and everything from makeup and skincare to alcohol and candles. But iconic snack company Walkers has come under fire with its advent calendar.

Popular TikTok account UK Newest Foods is reviewing a host of 2024 advent calendars until December 1, sharing unfiltered opinions on the biggest brands’ offerings this Christmas.
In a recent video, the content creators dish the dirt on Walkers’ £10 advent calendar – and they didn’t hold back. Kicking off the footage, the calendar is shown in all its glory, with each door opened and all 24 packets of crisps taken out.
A voiceover accompanying the clips states: “Day four, reviewing Christmas advent calendars for 2024. Today’s advent calendar is the Walkers crisps advent calendar and it cost us £10 from Iceland.
“Well, I’m so sad to say that this review is not a good one. This advent calendar is absolutely not worth the money. If you are thinking about buying this one, please don’t. You get 24 bags of crisps in only four flavours which are Ready Salted, Prawn Cocktail, Cheese & Onion, and Salt & Vinegar. Out of all the flavours that Walkers do, to only include four, is absolutely terrible.”
They continued, lambasting the price of the seasonal product: “A box of 20 Walkers crisps is currently £3.50 in Asda so this calendar should be about £5, £6 – maybe a maximum of £7.50 for the novelty factor but £10 for 24 bags of crisps is an absolute disgrace.
“I’m sorry, Walkers, but I’m so disappointed. In a time where lots of people are struggling for money, and live within very tight budgets, £10 for this is shocking.”
The quality of the calendar also drew ire. UK Newest Foods concluded: “The calendar itself is made with such hard cardboard, it’s nearly impossible to open the doors and most of ours ripped. It’s a terrible, terrible advent calendar. Buy a 20 box of crisps in Asda for £3.50 and write the days on instead.”
Fellow TikTok users rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts. One person said: “They could have done ‘Christmas’ flavours”, while another said: “Just go and buy two 12 packs and have one everyday,” to which, UK Newest Foods replied: “Literally!! But if you buy the big box at Asda, at least it’s more like an advent calendar.”
Someone else said: “Surely they’ve got/had enough flavours to have a different one every day”, but another person commented: “85p per packet of crisps, 24 packets for £10, and an advent calendar? I think it’s worth it. Who wouldn’t want to munch on crisps while counting down?”
Walkers has been approached for comment.
