A Lanarkshire law firm has topped the Scottish legal aid earnings table for the second year running.
Bruce the Lawyers was paid £2,021,000 by the Scottish Legal Aid Board in 2023-24, up four per cent on the previous year.
The busy criminal law firm has offices in Motherwell, Airdrie and Glasgow, and has sponsored more than 20 boxing clubs in the area.
Director Diarmid Bruce said: “I’m very proud that we’re the busiest in Scotland.
“I often liken criminal defence work to fighting for your clients and many boxing analogies are apt.
“A client can be in a ‘fight’ to clear his or her name or secure a favourable outcome.
“We are getting bigger and stronger, and our recent affiliation with Bruce Jackson Limited has helped create by far and away the biggest criminal defence alliance in Scotland.
“Clients sense our relentless determination to assist them and that is a significant part of our success.”
Speaking about his firm’s extensive support of boxing clubs, Mr Bruce added: “Boxing is a great outlet for wayward youths, building discipline and confidence together with numerous other positives.”
