PIPESTEM, W.Va. – Earlier this year it was announced that Pipestem Resort State Park was awarded $12.4 million for a new tram that was set to open this fall. As of Nov. 19, the tram is still under construction.
There are crews on site continuing to renovate the tram. The previous tram lasted for 54 years before the structure needed an upgrade.
The park’s Superintendent, Mark Hager, told WVVA earlier this year that they expect more visitors once the new tram is installed.
“Twelve cars hold eight people, and they can operate longer in the season. We do expect to be able to have more guests visiting the park, going into the gorge and visiting the facilities there throughout, possibly even in the winter. That extends our season and extends the opportunity for the guests to use the park as well,” said Hager in March.
WVVA reached out to officials with the West Virginia Department of Tourism to see how the project was progressing but have yet to hear back.
