Scott McTominay is poised to make a quickfire return for Napoli against Roma this weekend – despite limping off with a suspected foot injury in Scotland’s last-gasp win over Poland in Warsaw.

The box-to-box midfielder was replaced with 14 minutes left on the clock with the scores level at 1-1 before Dark Blues skipper Andy Roberton netted with a bullet header in injury time to secure a third place finish in Nations League Group A1 for Steve Clarke‘s side. The former Manchester United star appeared to leave the pitch in discomfort, sparking initial fears that he would be unavailable for the visit of Roma to Serie A table-toppers Napoli on Sunday.

But according to Sky Sport in Italy, McTominay himself has reassured his club that he will be fit for the weekend after being immediately examined after the Poland game by Scotland’s medical team. They add that the 27-year-old – who has made an excellent start under Antonio Conte after making the £25.7million switch from Old Trafford last summer – will be given additional medical checks on his return to Naples this week.

McTominay has already registered three goals in his first 10 matches for Gli Azzurri, including the opener in a 1-1 draw with Inter before the international break. Conte’s men currently hold a one point lead at the top of Serie A, with Atalanta, Fiorentina, Inter and Lazio all in close pursuit.
