COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV/Gray News) – A teenager in Colorado was busted over the weekend for speeding at nearly 130 mph on the highway.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said the 17-year-old driver was full of excuses when they were pulled over by a deputy.

The teen was clocked going at a whopping 126 miles per hour, 61 mph over the posted speed limit of 65.

The teen was pulled over on Highway 24 near Colorado Springs, but the exact location was not revealed.

The sheriff’s office made light of the encounter in a post on social media.

“It’s time for El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit Trivia!” the post said. “When the driver was asked why they were driving so fast, they responded with:

a) I’m late for my curfew.

b) I was blowing off steam.

c) (Silence).

d) I was rushing home because I forgot my uniform at home and have a (sports) home game tonight.”

The sheriff’s office later confirmed the answer was “b) blowing off steam.”

The deputy said they were then presented with a paper copy of the driver’s license because they had only just received it back following a previous suspension.

Although they made a joke out of it, the sheriff’s office reiterated that the teen’s actions were very serious, resulting in a “hefty ticket for speeding, speed contest, reckless driving, and no proof of insurance.” He was also given a mandatory court date.

“Parents, this is an excellent example while talking to your kids about their driving habits, the consequences of breaking the law, and the dangers of reckless driving,” the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office also had a warning for anyone considering speeding, regardless of their age.

“Our deputies are on the roads — and they will pull you over. Speeding, reckless driving — is not a victimless crime,” it said.
