PATRICK COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – Before asking Santa for gifts this year, 4-year-old Noah Beasley is working on a different task ahead of the pawlidays.
“Raising money for the dogs,” said Noah Beasley.
Noah recently started a fundraiser for the Patrick County Animal Shelter.
It was his mom’s idea to start a new, annual tradition this month and let him choose a project to give back to the community.
“Noah is a very sweet, kind-hearted kid,” said Kirsten Beasley, Noah’s mom. “So, one of the things I really wanted to do as a mother, was nurture that and find ways to be able to teach him that he can have an impact even at a young age.”
Growing up on a farm and having a passion for animals, Noah’s decision was easy.
“I gave Noah three options, and I didn’t even get to the third option before he said animals. So, he’s very excited to give back to his community in this way,” added Beasley.
Since starting the GoFundMe a couple weeks ago with a goal of $100, he’s already surpassed that, raising a total of $300.
Instead of focusing on his own Christmas wish list, with the funds raised, Noah will be buying food, toys, and treats off the shelter’s wish list and checking it twice.
“They sent us a list. So, we’re going to use that list to go shopping and bring all of that here. He’s very excited to go shopping for all of the animals,” said Beasley.
“It’s not the fact that he’s just doing it for the dog shelter, but to have this sense of civic pride, especially Patrick County, it’s a special place,” said Michael Mcguinness, Director of Facilities for Patrick County. “So, for him to do that at four years old, maybe he’ll be the mayor here sometime soon.”
Noah is accepting donations until the end of the month.
