HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) – As the holiday season approaches, shoppers may be on high alert for porch pirates.
Major John Holbrook with the Hazard Police Department said it is important to protect your items.
“First of all try to track your packages and know when they’re going to get there. If you have several coming at one time really have someone pick them up or even have them delivered to your place of employment,” Holbrook said.
People should also protect items in their cars, he added. Keeping the items out of sight is crucial to avoid them being stolen during the holiday season.
“Put them in your trunk or at least have a blanket so you can cover them up,” Holbrook said.
He also said shoppers should watch their backs in person as well.
“As far as shopping and stuff goes, it’s safer if a woman wears a cross body and keeps her wallet or purse in her front pocket or inside of her coat pocket. Try to avoid paying with large amounts of cash,” Holbrook said.
And most importantly Holbrook reminds folks to call 911 if they notice any suspicious activity.
