Out of work Michael Beale is set to link up with Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq, according to a report.
The former Rangers boss has been on the hunt for a job after being sacked by Sunderland back in February after a miserable 12-game stint in charge at the Stadium of Light. His disappointing tenure with The Black Cats follows on from a miserable 10-month stint as the main man in the Ibrox dugout – but he nows looks set to return to Gerrard’s shadow in the Saudi Pro League.
Gerrard worked with Beale during his time in the Premiership – leaving Rangers for Aston Villa in 2021 just months after lifting the Scottish title. The Londoner would leave the Premier League to go it alone at QPR before finding his way back to Rangers as boss. Now GMS report that Beale is set to step back into the dugout at Ettifaq.
It comes with Gerrard facing mounting pressure with the club languishing in 12th spot going into the international break with just one win in their last five games in all competitions. While the former Ibrox title-winner kept his job after crisis talks with the Ettifaq powerbrokers there was drastic action taken.
Former Rangers sporting director Mark Allen – who held the same role at Ettifaq – was shown the door following the crisis summit along with Gerrard’s assistant Dean Holden. That appears to have paved the way for Beale to join his ally in the Middle East.
